About the concert program

It is where Bizet found his Carmen and where Mozart and Rossini found their famous Barber. A place where Arabian, African and European cultures have mixed and flourished for more than two millennia, producing what some today call the world’s richest song tradition. From the beginnings of Western civilization, if you wanted an experience of the exotic, you headed to Spain. 

For this special musical event, Puerto Rican baritone Matthew Melendez will be joined by musical host George Shangrow, pianist Jerrod Wendland, soprano Tessia Altiveros, and classical guitarist Robert Blatt in an evening of lively Spanish art song.

The program will feature works by composers Federico Mompou, Xavier Montsalvatge, and Carlos Guastavino; guitar virtuosi Fernando Sor and Emilio Pujol; and the famous vocal maestra Pauline Garcia-Viardot.

Event festivities will be hosted by international parenting specialists Dr. and Mrs. Foster Cline, authors of Parenting with Love and Logic and Parenting Teens with Love and Logic, two of the nation’s best-selling books on parenting.
