GARDENS IN HARMONY

GROW YOUR OWN!
Getting Started with Sustainable Gardening

with Ann Lovejoy
Saturday, February 27, 2010 10 am to 4 pm
$85 pp ~ includes delicious whole foods lunch

Great food starts with sunshine and healthy soil. We can't bring you sunshine, but this one day workshop will help you pick a likely spot for a garden plot and learn how to nourish the soil into what farmers call "good heart." We'll discuss sowing seeds, growing seedlings, and learn planting techniques and timing. Ann will offer her ideas on splendid plant choices for the Northwest as well as her best tricks for keeping weeds at bay. After a fabulous lunch featuring fresh, local food, we'll tour the lovely Harmony Hill gardens, discuss the basics of garden design and permaculture (edible landscaping). Next we'll learn some simple ways to coax more warmth out of our chilly Northwestern springs with or without a real greenhouse and end the day with a Question and Answer period. Bring a notebook and plenty of questions and you'll go home ready to get growing!

Suitable for beginning and novice gardeners or those new to edible gardening.

Learn how to assess the site, identify goals and priorities, make choices and plan what-goes-where to create a garden you can live and grow with over the years.
