What do you do when you're 31-years old, married with two young children and facing cancer, the loss of your left hand, and possibly your life? If you're Seattle native Joshua Isaac, you get a camera and make My Left Hand - a thought-provoking and ultimately triumphant film. This moving documentary by Harmony Hill alumni Isaac follows his two-year journey and triumph over epithelioid sarcoma. The roughly 81-minute film premiered at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival 2007 where it won the Survivor Spirit Award. "Making the movie was a way for me to deal with the most difficult situation I've ever faced," said Isaac. "For one thing, as it was being shot it shifted my focus so that it didn't seem so real hearing that the cancer metastasized or how difficult the side effects of chemo were going to be. But I knew from the start of the journey that I wanted to do something positive and constructive from this experience. Now it's my hope others can learn and find comfort from the film."

Cell Level Meditation focuses awareness on the smallest unit of life for
the purpose of healing. By meditating with the cells, you begin to
awaken to the vast potential within yourself-to move to levels of
greater self-awareness. You take a majestic leap as you find your own
authentic experience, as an expression of what is going on all the way
down at the level of the humble cell. By simply looking at something,
you change it. So in Cell Level Meditation, you look into the cells of
your body, and then go into the cells and become them, using the
timeless technique of combining awareness with the breath. Perhaps for
the first time you direct this ancient technique of awareness at the
smallest unit of life: the cell. With a forward written by our very own
Harmony Hill Founder and Executive Director Gretchen Schodde.

By Deanna Minich, PH.D.
The human being is like a diamond, complete with many facets: body, emotions, mind, and spirit. These aspects can be unified through a variety of approaches, including through the experience of eating. When we want to make a significant change in our lives, one of the ways to do this is by choosing specific foods t o support that change. Foods and eating present a powerful way to begin and support a shift for the whole self since eating occurs every day, many times a day. The sheer bulk of food we eat provides not only physical matter to give the body energy, but also "an energy signature" to feed the subtle needs of the soul. Using the chakra energy system established by ancient Vedic texts, Chakra Foods for Optimum Health provides a hands-on guide to how to heal body, mind, and spirit through foods and eating. Minich is a dynamic nutrition educator, yoga practitioner and author of four books on nutrition and healing, and is an In Harmony facilitator who offers nutrition and wellness workshops at Harmony Hill.

A portion of the proceeds from the author's proceeds from this book come to
Harmony Hill. This is a great book for any person who has breast cancer. The
Library Journal says: "An ordained minister, Jarvis worked as an oncology
care chaplain prior to her own breast cancer diagnosis. But if you expect a
staid, glass-is-half-full sermon, hold on to your garters, because Jarvis is
nothing like the recruitment films. In an email to family and friends, her
second thought upon diagnosis was, "Oh, shit." And among the discussions of
the trials and travesties of the disease, she addresses her faith and
conversations with "Mr. Martha Miyagi." No matter your own belief system,
Jarvis is a breath of fresh air in the congested world of health memoirs." |
