Rachel and Annie work collaboratively to provide retreats and coaching services designed to improve the physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing of health care providers.

Self-care is a priority and a necessity – not a luxury – in the work that we do.
This retreat is designed to improve the physical, mental, emotional, and social wellbeing of women health care providers. Retreat participants will engage in interactive wellness activities that offer space and time for relieving stress, anxiety, overwhelm, and burnout.
This retreat aims to help women health care providers cultivate behaviors and practices to enhance their personal self-care and prevent and overcome burnout.
Cultivating mindfulness, stress resilience, and self-care is at the heart of what this retreat aims to accomplish.
Come and fill up your cup with a restorative weekend of wellness practices, self-care, nature, and community with a group of like-minded women, while earning education credits.
This retreat is aimed at Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants.
Retreat Activities
Throughout the retreat, participants will explore a variety of self-care practices designed for personal well-being. In particular, we’ll highlight strategies for stress resilience, preventing and managing compassion fatigue and burnout, and recovering well-being for self and community.
- Self-Compassion, Mindfulness, and Meditation Practices. Retreat participants will explore a variety of techniques for practicing self-compassion, mindfulness, and meditation, all of which are evidence-based ways to relieve stress and restore the body and mind.
- Gentle Yoga and Guided Relaxation. Yoga offers numerous mental and health benefits for people of all ages, including stress reduction, better moods, and improved sleep. This retreat offers gentle yoga and guided relaxation designed to help the body and mind relax deeply. For those new to yoga, the practices offered in this retreat are designed to be accessible for all bodies. - Guided Self-Reflection and Self-Care Tool Box. Participants will engage in self-reflection exercises designed to shed light on current levels of self-care, moods, emotions, and mental well-being, as well as stressors and burdens that contribute to diminished well-being. Explore a toolbox of self-care practices for personal and professional well-being, including ways to alleviate stress, calm the anxious mind, soothe anger, and ease sadness. Participants will be guided in creating a personal plan for building self-care into their daily lives.
- Preventing, Managing, and Recovering from Compassion Fatigue and Burnout. Chronic stress and adversity can lead to compassion fatigue and burnout in healthcare professionals. Participants will learn how to recognize the stressors and triggers for compassion fatigue and burnout and will gain effective strategies for restoring well-being.
- Setting Your True North. At the end of the day, every human being wants a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. This retreat aims to guide participants in clarifying and reconnecting to their inspirations, strengths, talents, and values and assisting them in giving voice to what constitutes fulfillment in their profession. Providers who have a strong sense of their True North experience greater satisfaction, invigoration, and longevity in their careers.
- Opportunities for Hiking, Kayaking, and Exploration. Harmony Hill, located on the Hood Canal, is an ideal Northwest escape for those who love nature, and outdoor activities. Retreat participants will have the opportunity to enjoy nature walks, hiking and kayaking.
Learning Objectives
After this education, participants should be able to:
- Identify triggers for burnout and compassion fatigue.
- Implement evidence-based strategies for stress relief and recovering well-being.
- Develop a plan for self-care in daily life.
- Employ a variety of mindful self-compassion techniques and practices for personal and occupational well-being.
- Identify their strengths, talents, and values and give voice to what for them, constitutes satisfaction and fulfillment in their profession.

Optional Retreat Activities
Retreat participants have Saturday afternoon free to relax, receive a massage, go hiking, or book a kayak tour. We will contact you prior to the retreat with more information on these options.
Retreat Facilitators
Dr Rachel Bishop and Annie Barrett collectively have over 50 years of professional experience in primary care, teaching and wellness. They have been friends and colleagues for the last 15 years, and came together during the COVID pandemic to recognize the crisis of burnout in healthcare. Their programs and retreats creatively aim to restore health and wellbeing for Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants. They offer one day or multi day retreats, individual and group coaching and are available to speak at meetings and seminars.
Rachel Bishop, MBChB, DTMH, DRCOG, MRCGP
Dr Rachel Bishop is a Family Physician and Physician Peer Coach. Originally from the UK, she has been working in primary care for over 25 years, including 6 years providing cross-cultural care in India and Nepal. For the last 14 years she has been working for Peace Health in the San Juan Islands. She recognizes the importance of the human experience in medicine, is a member of the Peace Health Wellness Committee, the Physician Council at the Beryl Institute and a Vital Worklife advocate.
She balances work as a Primary Care Physician with running a small organic farm on Orcas Island, and teaching Suzuki violin lessons to children in her community.
Dr Bishop completed her medical degree at the University of Leeds, UK. Postgraduate training was in Rural Medicine in West Yorkshire, UK, Family Medicine at Group Health, Seattle, Tropical Medicine and Public Health at the University of Liverpool, and the faculty development fellowship at the University of Washington. She trained as a Physician Peer Coach at the Physician Coaching Academy.
Annie Barrett, MA, NBC-HWC, CAP, E-RYT-500
Annie Barrett is a Bilingual Educator, National Speaker, National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach, Board-Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and Trainer. Annie has worked over 25 years as an educator spanning the fields of K-12, post-secondary and community education, alongside coaching individuals and groups in health and wellness, and training yoga teachers. She educates and empowers groups and individuals to live resilient and vibrant lives with the tools of lifestyle medicine, mindfulness, habit change science and yoga. As a workplace wellness provider, Annie has found success applying her diverse training in helping individuals and teams manage work-related stress, overcome compassion fatigue and burnout and achieve work-life balance.
Annie completed her Masters of Education from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a Board-Certified Health Coach with the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches and holds a certification as an Integrative Health and Wellbeing Coach with YogaMedCo. She earned an Ayurvedic Practitioner diploma with Yoga Veda Institute and is a Board-Certified Practitioner with the National Ayurvedic Medical Association. Over the past 27 years, Annie has trained with many teachers and lineages of yoga and is an Experienced-Registered Yoga Teacher and Continuing Education Provider with Yoga Alliance.
